Often when you are looking for a family whose name is not common in an area you come across children you know nothing about. This may open up a new branch to the tree you are researching. In 1838 a child was born in Portree, Isle of Skye to Alexander Arbuckle and Margaret Colquhoun named Flora Arbuckle.
By the 1841 census neither Alexander nor Margaret are to be found and young Flora is living with her grandparents.
However by the 1861 census she is no longer there and there is no record of her having died. So maybe she has emigrated? We found that she had indeed emigrated to Australia in 1856 and during the search for her we also came across Alexander Arbuckle who had emigrated too in 1838.
So it looks like, when she was old enough, Flora followed her father and undertook what must have been a very daunting journey for an 18 year old unaccompanied woman.
